Salary Range: $46,381 – $49,500
Location: Miami, Florida (Regular travel throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin counties)

Minimum Qualifications:
* A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the marine environmental or biological sciences with five years of professional experience in a field or environmental program is required.
* A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the marine biological sciences with one year of professional experience in a field or environmental program is preferred.
* Scuba diving experience (> 60 dives), Nitrox certification, and experience as a diver for marine science related field work preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications and Other Specific Requirements of Law: Scuba Diver Certification; Valid Class E Florida Driver’s License.

This position is responsible for managing and maintaining the FDEP Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) based in Miami, with regional jurisdiction over coral reef resource management, monitoring, research and public education in southeast Florida, from the northern boundary of Biscayne National Park in Miami-Dade County, through Broward and Palm Beach Counties, to the St.. Lucie Inlet in Martin County.
This position leads planning, development, and implementation of the goals and objectives identified in the CRCP’s Strategic Plan: 2011-2016.
This position leads planning, development and implementation of the Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative (SEFCRI), Florida’s Local Action Strategy (LAS), including facilitating participation by, and input from, stakeholders and other government agencies in SEFCRI. This position organizes, facilitates, and participates in CRCP and SEFCRI-related workshops and meetings, ensuring meetings are properly noticed and summaries are recorded; Acquires, analyzes and reviews data and literature relevant to the CRCP; develops and updates databases; Prepares progress, financial and other reports; Facilitates annual review (and revision, if needed) of SEFCRI LAS.
This position is responsible for assisting the Southeast Regional Administrator in directing the Reef Injury Prevention and Response Program’s response to, and damage assessment activities for, vessel groundings and anchoring impacts to reef resources in the southeast region. This responsibility includes collaborating with other agency representatives and technical experts, as needed, to address these incidents.
This position serves as alternate to the State of Florida’s Point of Contact to the US Coral Reef Task Force and the US All Islands Committee in the absence of the Southeast Regional Administrator.
This position participates in environmental compliance activities, scientific research, investigations, and monitoring activities as a scientific research diver. This position participates in quality assurance activities including regulatory permit review and collects data and/or information to assess environmental impacts, determine effects, and establish standards, as needed.
Other duties as assigned:
* Snorkel or Dive as required to assist with field work.
* Periodic weekend and evening work may be required.
* Regular local travel throughout southeast Florida. Occasional long-distance travel.
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
1. Knowledge of personnel and ecosystem management principles and techniques; the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences with special emphasis on coral reef ecosystems and general marine science or coastal resource management.
2. Knowledge of, and experience in, scientific diving.
3. Ability to manage an environmental program; supervise people; determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs; solve problems and make decisions.
4. Ability to assess budgetary needs and approve procurement; formulate procedures; facilitate collaborative work environment; prepare technical reports; work in a team setting as well as work independently; create and implement strategic planning processes including public engagement.
5. Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines. Skill is resolving conflicts and understanding the root issues associated with differing opinions.
6. Proficiency with PC computers, Microsoft Office product suite. Experience with Microsoft Access and ArcGIS. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
7. Possess exceptional verbal communication skills that foster dialogue and help facilitate relationships with a variety of stakeholders and organizations as well as excellent organizational and writing skills.
8. Must have an exceptional work ethic and be willing to work on a variety of issues and projects simultaneously and in an environment where immediate action may be required.
