The Belize Barrier Reef is a vital component of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, which extends from Cancun to Honduras. The reef includes more than 400 islands, locally referred to as “cayes” and three atolls. It boasts a rich ecosystem, home to over 70 species of hard coral, 30 species of soft coral, and hundreds of fish species.
