Species and Site Lists

Library List

Gear List 

While we maintain some diving and snorkeling gear on site for replacements, to participate in most snorkeling activities, students will need to bring their own gear. Our list of necessary gear and recommendations can be downloaded here. 

Research Permits 

To conduct marine research in Belize, permitting by Belize Fisheries Department may be necessary. Forms and procedures can be found here.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have a registered nurse on site as a member of staff. Within a mile, there is a 24/7 medical facility, Polyclinic II. There is a hospital on the island, and medivac services for more serious evacuation to hospitals on the mainland. There is also a decompression chamber located on the island. 

We are located about 1.5 miles from the center of town. It is about a 15-20 minute walk on the beach. As the island has grown, town has expanded, and there are food stores, souvenir shops, restaurants, and doctors offices within a 5-10 minute walk of TREC.

Our dock is a 5-10 minute walk from TREC.

We own a 48-foot catamaran, the Goliath, that we use for most groups. It is spacious and offers seating in the sun, canopy coverage, and inside rooms. We also own a small speed boat, the Frank M. In addition, we provide larger speed boats and sail boats for various trips. 

Belizean currency is the Belizean dollar. The Belize dollar is a 2-to-1 exchange to the US dollar. $1 USD is $2 BZD. There are ATMs to get Belize dollars and banks for exchange readily available, but US currency is also widely accepted in Belize. 

Belize observes Central Standard Time year-round. We do not have daylight savings.
